Introduction

The only place I had known in Africa before I came to South Africa was Madagascar. I guess that’s why my expectations were quite different from reality. South Africa is developed, organized, and much greener than you would think (many people seem to think Africa is desert and men with spears).

It’s a very nice country to travel in. Most people speak English, it’s not very expensive, and, really, it’s less dangerous than most people think. In fact, I think it has sort of entered my countries-definitely-worth-visiting-again list.

My friend Jennifer and I decided to do this trip a few weeks before our planes took off. After visiting my brother (who stayed in Cape Town for studies), she would return to Berlin and I would head to New York and Chicago to visit a few friends. We took quite a few very nice pictures in South Africa which you can see on this website.
